Silver Armada Dish Small
  • Our smallest Sterling Silver Armada Dish measuring 3 1/4", it can also be referred to as a Drakes Dish or Elizabethan Dish. This style of dish can be dated back to the 16th century, and the piece has been made to the standards upheld by the English Silver trade for hundreds of years.
  • This dish has been hand made in Sheffield England, it has been 'spun' from a single silver circle and is beautifully polished.
  • It carries feature hallmarks and is presented in a smart blue box.
  • To assist your enquiry, we have shot this dish as a short movie clip, please click on the video icon above to watch this.
  • The Armada Dish looks fantastic engraved, as we are able to curve the engraving around the opposite side of the rim to the hallmark.
This Sterling Silver Dish has a wonderful history and it’s plain design makes it as relevant today as it was centuries ago. The dish is hand made, has a distinctive style and is the perfect wedding, anniversary or presentation gift. The history of the dish is dated back hundreds of years ago, when Sir Christopher Harris, a sixteenth century commander of a British Army Regiment was given a spectacular gift for his service to the country. This was a banqueting service of dishes and plates, some of which are thought to be made from silver taken from the Spanish Armada. Around 1645 Sir Christopher's great nephew, a Royalist Commander based in Plymouth, buried the service in a field near Dartmoor to prevent it falling into Parliamentarian hands. This service was discovered at the beginning of the 20th century and was sold at Christies  in 1911. This piece carries a full English Hallmark, which certifies that the metal used conforms to one of the legal standards of fineness or purity.
