A commemorative hallmark has been launched in the UK in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. This hallmark will run from July 2011 to October 2012, and we will be selling lots of gifts which incorporate this hallmark!!
2012 is set to be a momentous year in the UK. The Diamond Jubilee celebrations will mark a hugely significant time in British history, as Queen Elizabeth is only the second monarch to reign for more than 60 years. In addition to this, London will be hosting the Olympics, which all makes for a very exciting summer.
In the history of hallmarking, which dates back to around 1327, there has only been 5 other commemorative marks, and, this hallmark is sure to be a collectors item of the future.
The hallmark depicts a young Queen, wearing an oversized crown in a diamond shaped surround. Many of our products are already carrying this special hallmark, and in addition to this you will find a range of memorabilia in the Silver Gents Gifts section. These pieces are very tasteful and are beautifully executed, many carrying the Royal Cypher with a small piece of engraving.
Over the next couple of weeks we will be updating individual products to show whether they will also be carrying the diamond jubilee hallmark. If you would like to give us a call to check any item, please use the free phone number, we are always happy to help.
Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% by weight of silver and 7.5% by weight of other metals, usually copper. The sterling silver standard has a minimum millesimal fineness of 925. We sell the finest Sterling Silver Products using this website or you can Freephone us on 0800 8620438 to process your enquiry.
Fine silver (99.9% pure) is generally too soft for producing large functional objects; therefore, the silver is usually alloyed with copper to give it strength, while at the same time preserving the ductility and beauty of the precious metal. Other metals can replace the copper, usually with the intent to improve various properties of the basic sterling alloy such as reducing casting porosity, eliminating firescale, and increasing resistance to tarnish. These replacement metals include germanium, zinc and platinum, as well as a variety of other additives, including silicon and boron. A number of alloys, such as Argentium sterling silver have appeared in recent years, formulated to lessen firescale or to inhibit tarnish, and this has sparked heavy competition among the various manufacturers, who are rushing to make claims of having the best formulation. However, no one alloy has emerged to replace copper as the industry standard, and alloy development is a very active area.
